제목 Emission properties of Ho3+ in chalcogenide glasses and their potentials for 1.66㎛ fiber-optic amplifiers
초록 Since the advent of EDFA(Er-Doped Fiber Amplifiers), extensive efforts have been devoted to realize broadband fiber-optic amplifiers. Many amplifier systems using various rare-earths have been proposed including PDFA(Pr-Doped Fiber Amplifiers) and TDFA(Tm-Doped Fiber Amplifiers) for 1.3㎛ and 1.4㎛ band amplification, respectively. However, no practical amplifiers has been proposed for the 1.6㎛ band region where silica glass still shows reasonably low loss. We report Ho3+-doped chalcogenide glasses as potential materials for 1.6㎛ fiber-optic amplifier. Since chalcogenide glasses show low phonon energy, sulfide and selenide glasses were chosen as host glasses for the sake of high quantum efficiency. Optimization of Ho3+ concentration together with co-doping of Tb3+ were attempted to optimize the amplification efficiency. In addition, the effect of upconversion luminescence at 0.66㎛ on the emission properties was also investigated.
