Development of hole transporting materials for high efficiency perovskite solar cells with high long-term stability |

Methylammonium lead halide perovskite solar cells have emerged as among the most promising photovoltaic technologies due to their superb and rapidly increasing power conversion efficiencies (PCEs), reaching 20%. For realistic deployment of the perovskite solar cell technology for commercialization, however, the issues such as device stability and material cost have become more important than ever and need to be focused. Regarding the issues, we have developed inexpensive hole transporting materials (HTMs) and tried to improve the device’s long-term stability to environmental stresses such as moisture. In the present contribution, we will address our most recent work on i) synthesis of noble cost-effective HTMs as an alternative to spiro-OMeTAD for perovskite solar cells and ii) introduction of an interlayer between the HTM and perovskite layer in the device to improve stability to moisture exposure. These studies have set a stage for developing more practical perovskite solar cell technologies, which including not only solar cell performance but also device stability and cost aspects. |
