Polydopamine mediated immobilization of bioactive molecules on the poly(l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL) substrates |

In tissue engineering application, cell survival on the synthetic materials is often limited mostly due to the absence of cell interactivity. Surface modification techniques to enhance cell interactivity of the scaffolds have attracted significant attention. Recently, polydopamine coating has been considered as a novel modification method which can immobilize bioactive molecules. In this study, we characterized polydopamine coating process and investigated cell behaviors after immobilizing bioactive molecules on the poly(l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL) substrates. Progress of polydopamine coating involved with coating time, polydopamine coated substrates exhibited alteration of surface properties. Furthermore, bioactive molecules immobilized substrates successfully modulated adhesion, spreading and proliferation of the cells. Using this simple method, cell interactivity of the synthetic material can be easily enhanced, and cellular behaviors may be modulated on the materials. |
