Facile fabrication of functional interlayer based on nickel phosphide for Li-S batteries |

Lithium polysulfides (LPS) are easily dissolved into an electrolyte during the charging/discharging in lithium-sulfur batteries (LSB). Therefore, the utilization of sulfur and the capacity are reduced dramatically. Herein, a multifunctional interlayer is designed for the trap of the soluble LPS in electrolyte and prepared by an electrodeposition of nickel phosphide on a carbon cloth (CC). NiPx are directly deposited on CC without any polymer binder, which is caused some resistance. NiPx can immobilize the soluble LPS by the chemical affinity of Ni+δ to Sn-2 ion, while the affinity of P-δ to Li+ ion. Ions and electrons are well transfer through the conductive CC. The Li-S batteries with the interlayer exhibit the 2.8 times higher specific capacity compared with that without any interlayer. The fabricated interlayer could be used for various batteries, such as Li-, K-, and Na-ion battery. |
