Crosslinked-Nafion membranes were prepared by the reaction of sulfonic acid groups which were activated by 1,1’-carbonyldiimidazole in Nafion (DE2021) with diamine crosslinkers. The formation of sulfonamide linkages was confirmed by ATR-FTIR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The performance of the membranes was measured in terms of IEC (ion exchange capacity), water uptake, proton conductivity, and methanol permeability. As the content of crosslinker increases, IEC and water uptake decreased. Proton conductivity of crosslinked Nafion membrane were higher than Nafion 117. Methanol permeabilities of crosslinked Nafion membrane were lower than that of Nafion117. As a result, all of the selectivities increased and the maximum selectivity was 3.3times better than that of Nafion117. |
