Study on fracture toughness of ozone-treated single-walled carbon nanotube / epoxy resin initiated by N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate |

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were ozone treated, and their surface properties were investigated using a Fourier transform-infrared vacuum spectrometer (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). SWCNTs-reinforced epoxy composites were prepared using N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate as a thermal latent initiator. The mechanical interfacial properties of the epoxy composites were investigated by measuring the critical stress intensity factor (KIC) and the critical strain energy release rate (GIC). The KIC and GIC of the composites show maximum values at 0.10 wt% ozone-treated SWCNTs, which were significantly higher than those of neat epoxy resins or epoxy/SWCNTs composites without the ozone treatment. |
