High efficiency quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell based on PVDF-co-HFP by embedded liquid crystal |

The liquid crystal (E-7 and/or ML-0249) embedded, poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-co-HFP) based, polymeric electrolyte was developed for achieving high efficiency in quasi-solid state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The electrolytes consisted of 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (PMII), tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI), and iodine (I2), which participate in the I3-/I- redox couple. DSSCs, using liquid crystal (LC) embedded PVDF-co-HFP based polymer electrolytes between the ruthenium dye N719 absorbed to the nanocrystalline TiO2 photoanode and the Pt counter electrode were fabricated. The fabricated DSSCs significantly increased short-circuit current density (Jsc) 14.60 mA/cm2 and open-circuit voltage (Voc ) 0.68 V let to high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.42 % and a fill factor 65 % under AM 1.5 sunlight (100mW/cm2 ). |
