Alginate derivatives were prepared to coating titanium surface and photo-immobilize bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) for improved osteoinduction and function. UV-curable alginate and phosphonated alginate was modified with 4-azidoaniline (Az-alginate) and 3-aminopropylphosphonic acid (P-alginate). These structure of Az-alginate and P-alginate were identified by 1H-NMR, 31P-NMR, and FT-IR. The water contact angle was determined to characterize titanium surface coated with P-alginate. To verify its applicability in implant, cytotoxicity test was carried out. After the confirmation of no cytotoxicity of alginate derivatives and BMP-2 release from the system, cell proliferation, and anti-bacterial activity were performed. |
