Preparation and Characterization of Atactic Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Clay Nanocomposite by Electrospinning |

In recent years, there has been a growing interest on the incorporation functional nanomaterials in the polymer matrix due to their uniquely promising properties and applications. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/clay nanocomposite were prepared by direct electrospinning of atactic PVA solution with small amount of clay. The effect of the clay contents on the morphology and structure the PVA/clay nanocomposite were investigated. The surface roughness increased with and increasing clay content in the PVA/clay nanocomposite. Compared with the pure PVA nanoweb, the PVA/clay nanocomposite shows an improvement in the thermal and mechanical property. The enhanced properties are presumably due to the effects of the nanoscale structure and the interaction between the PVA and clay. |
