Destruction of the environment by a variety of contaminants has become an increasingly severe problem in recent years. Especially, ammonia (NH3, gas phase) is considered to be a high health hazard because it is corrosive to the eyes and skin. Surface modification of activated carbons by various physicochemical methods directs an attractive approach for improvement of ammonia (NH3) adsorption. In this work, we studied the effect of chemical treatment on ammonia adsorption of activated carbons (ACs) which were modified with HNO3 / H2O2 mixtures as oxidizing agents. The ACs was characterized by low temperature nitrogen adsorption, Boehm’s titrations, XPS analyses and FT-IR. |
