Haemocompatibility tests of vascular grafts |

Tests of vascular graft haemocompatibility were performed by in vitro blood perfusion at a venous shear rate. Protein adsorption was performed by employing fibrinogen and albumin as a cell adhesion model protein and a cell-passiving model protein respectively. While the amount of proteins adsorbed on the graft surface was measured by counting the radiolabelled ones, the extent of platelet adhesion was estimated by measuring the surface area of the platelets adhered. The relationship between the amount of adsorbed proteins and adhered platelets was analyzed. In addition to these in vitro tests, in vivo tests were performed in rats and dogs to observe thrombosis and immune repsonses. |
