Propylene carbonate (PC) containing, high ion conductive solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) was developed for application to air-operating tri-layered polypyrrole (PPy) actuator. The SPE was fabricated from comb-like Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and Polyvinylidine Flouride (PVDF). By introducing PEO into porous PVDF membrane, the dimensional stability of SPE was improved. CP was induced in SPE by chemical polymerization, resulting well-adhered PPy layer on SPE, which were prevented from delamination. The fabricated actuators were characterized with SEM, ATR-IR, ionic conductivity, and air-operating performance, and the experimental results demonstrated that the synthesized actuator had effective bending actuation in air. |
