Organic-inorganic composite membrane has been studied for operation of PEMFC at high temperature and low RH. Inorganic particles of previous composite membrane improved mechanical & thermal properties but it has limitation of fuel cell performance. Common inorganic particles size is micro-sized material which affected ion channel development and hydrogen ion movement is reduced. So we suggested nanocomposites using few nano-sized additives (<3 nm) which are multifunctional materials based on inorganic cage with siloxane backbone. In conclusion, we composited nano-sized inorganic particles which are functionalized phosphonic acid with Nafion. The proton conductivities of Nafion nanocomposite membrane showed similar value compared with that of Nafion below 80 oC. And Nafion nanocomposite is predicted to improve proton conductivites of Nafion at high temperature condition (0.045 S/cm at 120 oC, < 40% RH) and anhydrous condition (0.025 S/cm at 120 oC, 0% RH). |
