제목 Spectroscopy of Tm3+-doped chalcohalide and heavy metal oxide glasses for 1.48μm fiber-optic amplifiers
초록 Recent reports indicate that Tm3+-doped fiber amplifiers (TDFA) are one of the most promising candidates for expanding optical communication window beyond the conventional wavelength band. However, there are several limitations to overcome. First, the electronic population density of the upper emission level (3H4) is lower than that of the lower level (3F4) and therefore, it is difficult to achieve the desired population inversion. Second, multiphonon relaxation (3H4→3H5) and cross-relaxation phenomenon (3H4,3H6→3F4,3F4) can also decrease the electronic density of the 3H4 level. Therefore, it is desirable to use glasses with low phonon energy and concentration of Tm3+ need to be carefully controlled.
In this study, chalcohalide and heavy metal oxide glasses were investigated as new host glasses for the 1.48μm fiber-optic amplifiers. They possess low phonon energies and good chemical properties. Glasses doped with Tm3+ and Ho3+(or Tb3+) were prepared and their emission and spectroscopic properties were investigated.
