3D Photonic Structures of Hydrogels toward Tunable Optofluidic Sensors using Holographic Lithography |

Recently, hydrogels have been received enormous attentions as smart materials applicable to various uses from biotechnology to nanotechnology. Hydrogels exhibit gradual or abrupt volume changes under the external stimuli. For the hydrogel materials, it is simple to form networks of crossliked polymer by photo-polymerization. Therefore, hydrogel architecture with desired patterns and multi-dimension can be obtained using holographic lithography. We optimized the experimental conditions for well-defined photonic structures. 3D porous hydrogels can be used as photonic crystals with diffractive and reflective optical properties originated from their periodic structures. Also when it is given proper stimulus, spectra shift can be observed. Based on the unique swelling property of hydrogels, patterned structures have potential applications such as functional microfluidic sensors and adaptive photonic crystal devices. |
