Anisotropic biodegradable nanoparticles have been of great interest because they offer unique properties by asymmetric distribution of polymers at each compartment. In this study, three different ABA-type triblock copolymers of (1) poly(l-lactide)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(l-lactide), PLLA-PEG-PLLA, (2) poly(d-lactide)-PEG-poly(d-lactide), PDLA-PEG-PDLA, and (3) poly(glycolide)-PEG-poly(glycolide), PGA-PEG-PGA were synthesized and characterized. Depending on crystalline and amorphous state, a series of anisotropic biodegradable nanoparticles were prepared via electrohydrodynamic co-jetting. One compartment was composed of stereocomplexes formed by enantiomeric PLLA-PEG-PLLA and PDLA-PEG-PDLA while the counterpart being composed of PGA-PEG-PGA. Different swelling ratios and degradation rates enable them to show different drug release kinetics. In conclusion, anisotropic biodegradable nanoparticles would be promising for advanced drug delivery system. |
