The Polyoligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) containing hydroxyl end groups was modified using POSS octa amic acid (POAA) and 1,4-butanediol (BD). Star-shaped POSS-based multi-arm Poly(butylene succinate) (SPOAA-PBS) with various POSS contents were synthesized by in situ polymerization. And then, the thermal properties of them were investigated and compared with linear PBS. FT-IR and 1H-NMR results show that modified POAA (POAA-BD) and SPOAA-PBS were succesfully synthesized. And the DSC results show that the crystallization temperature (Tc) of SPOAA-PBS increased with increase in the arm lengths, indicating that POAA acts as a nucleation agent on the crystallization of SPOAA-PBS with longer arm lengths. In paricular, Tc of SPOAA-PBS having shorter arm lengths is lower than linear PBS, indicating that the rigid stucture of POAA covalently bonded with PBS chains reduces the crystallization rate of SPOAA-PBS with shorter arm lengths. |
