제목 Alkylation of biomass-derived phenols with alcohols on HY zeolites: Reaction kinetics study
초록 The restriction on the amounts of carbon emission are being reinforced due to the worsening threats from global warming. In this respect, the production technology of bio-jet fuels is receiving much attention these days, particularly due to the large contribution of the CO2 emissions from the aviation sector. Alkylation of biomass-derived phenolic compounds with alcohols is the important class of reaction for the conversion of biomass pyrolysis oils to jet-fuel range cycloalkanes and aromatics. In this work, we have studied the reaction kinetics of the alkylation of 2-methoxyphenol with various alcohols over HY zeolites, based on the competitive C-alkylation, trans-alkylation, and O-alkylation reactions. The intrinsic rate constants for each reaction were measured, and the optimal reaction condition for maximizing the desired C-alkylation selectivity was identified. Furthermore, the crucial role of the alcohol structure in the alkylation kinetics was investigated in detail.
