Closed-Loop Sol-Gel Transition of the PEG-PCA Aqueous Solution |

We are reporting a unusual closed-loop phase behavior of poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(ethylcyano acylate) (PEG-PCA) aqueous solutions. As the temperature increased from 0 to 40 oC, the aqueous polymer solution (12 wt. %) underwent sol-to-gel-to-syneresis transition. However, the polymer aqueous solution persisted as a sol phase at 0.5 wt. % as well as 20 wt. % in the same temperature range, thus forming a closed-loop gel domain in a phase diagram. |
