Capacitive Deionization (CDI) is highlighted as a state-of-art deionization technology using electrochemical adsorption/desorption process. Recently, ion exchange membrane (IEM) has been considered as an essential component in CDI process to improve the stability and performance. However, there are lack of academic study to evaluate the effect of characteristics of ion exchange membrane on the performance in CDI process. In this study, we quantitatively analyzed the degree of enhancement in CDI performance as characteristics of ion exchange membrane. As characteristics of IEM, transport number, ion exchange capacity, electrical resistance, water content were selected. In addition, deionization capacity, maximum deionization rate, and charge efficiency were evaluated as CDI performances. As a result, IEM with the lower electrical resistance and higher transport number showed positive relation with the maximum deionization rate, and charge efficiency. |
