We used polyketone which has suitable properties for the production of ion-exchange membranes with good chemical resistance and shock resistance to synthesize an anion exchange membrane by graft copolymerization through 60Co γ-ray irradiation. Polyketone was first dissolved in resorcinol and D.I water, and a film was prepared. Then, graft copolymerization with vinyl benzyl chloride (VBC) was carried out by 60Co γ-ray irradiation to prepare an ion exchanger. Various irradiation doses and monomer concentrations were used to investigate the optimum synthesis conditions for the preparation of polyketone-g-vinyl benzyl chloride copolymer. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was performed to identify the structure of the membrane. Grafting rate was calculated gravimetrically. The water uptake (W.U), ion exchange capacity (IEC) and electrical resistance (E.R) of the membrane were measured to evaluate the physical properties of prepared membranes. |
