제목 Nondestructive Evaluation of Mechanical Properties for Single Fiber/Various Epoxy Composites by Characterization of Wave Signals by Acoustic Emission
초록 Acoustic emission (AE) is the release of a transient elastic wave when the state of strain or stress rapidly changes at some point in composites. The examination of AE waveform is a very successful tool for the sensitive detection and location of active damages in composites. The behavior of acoustic wave produced by microfailure and pencil-lead-breaks was studied for carbon fiber/epoxy composites. The arriving time difference of signal to two sensors was measured by pencil-lead-breaks method. This arrival time was effected by the factors such as material properties and environment. The comparison of mechanical properties of various modulus were evaluated through relative wave speed and waveform. Their length and amplitude of extensional and flexural modes can show the fiber and matrix failures and their fracture location. Fiber fracture is one of the dominant phenomena to determine total mechanical properties in the fiber reinforced composites. The changes of the interfacial shear stress (IFSS) of fiber/various epoxy composites could be predicted by the fiber fracture locations obtained by AE.
