Interfacial Evaluation and Microfailure Mechanism of Single Glass Fiber/Epoxy Composites Using Embedded PVDF Polymeric Sensor and Acoustic Emission |
초록 |
Piezoelectric polymer sensor is made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film. Piezo film is a flexible, lightweight, tough engineering plastics available in a wide variety of thicknesses and large area. Piezoelectric polymer sensor can be directly attached or embedded to a structure without disturbing its mechanical motion. Piezo film is suited for strain sensing applications requiring very wide bandwidth and high sensitivity. In this study, interfacial microfailure properties of glass fiber/epoxy composites were measured by PVDF sensor and acoustic emission (AE) with PZT sensor. PVDF sensor was embedded into the epoxy matrix whereas AE sensor was attached on matrix surface. Sensitivity of PVDF sensor was rather lower than AE sensor. AE sensor detected signals of fiber fracture, matrix cracking, and interfacial debonding, whereas PVDF sensor detected fiber fracture signal only. The characteristic signal occurred by delamination of embedded polymer sensor was detected using only AE. The provement of the improved sensitivity by polymer sensor will be studied further.
