When wood materials are used outdoors, the coatings of UV light absorber and hydrophobicity were necessary to enhance their weathering performance. On the other hand, the adhesion of glues and coatings is improved with increasing hydrophilicity of wood surface. Herein, we designed a room temperature wet chemical method to coat rutile TiO2 nanostructures on wood surface, which could enhance their photostability and weight stability, control their wettability (from high hydrophilicity to high hydrophobicity). Notably, some inorganic oxides such as TiO2 or ZnO are not only good UV light absorbers, but also possess excellent photodegradation ability of organic pollutant. Thus, Wood substrates decorated with rutile TiO2 nanostructures were further evaluated for adhesion performance and photodegradation of indoor TVOC. We expect the rutile TiO2 nanostructures coating to provide UV light resistance, enhance adhesion performance, and photodegradate organic pollutant. |
