Controlled synthesis and characterization of core-shell type bimetallic nanoparticles from block copolymer thin film |

We fabricate Ag@Au core-shell nanoparticle(NP) using facile two step replacement reaction. Initially octahedral Ag NP has been synthesized using solvent free thermal decomposition of silver salt loaded block copolymer films. Amphiphilic PS-b-P4VP block copolymer has been used as a support material for octahedral Ag NP formation. In toluene PS-b-P4VP form spherical micelle template with PS corona and P4VP core. Selective incorporation of silver salt in block copolymer solution forms organic-inorganic complex by coordinating with hydrophilic P4VP core. Rapid thermal decomposition leads to the formation of octahedral Ag NPs which came out of the block copolymer micelle on substrate. Subsequently Au shell was deposited on the Ag octahedral by simple replacement reaction. Electron microscopy and tapping mode atomic force microscopy were performed to observe the octahedral Ag NP in large area Ag@Au core-shell morphology. The plasmonic properties of NPs were determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. |
