Organic-inorganic nanocomposites have attracted considerable attention in recent years because they exhibit superior properties which cannot be obtained in conventional composites. Halloysite nanotube(HNT) is a kind of naturally occurring aluminosilicate with nanotubular structure and has been regarded as a new type of reinforcing filler for various polymers. EPDM is a typical non-polar unsaturated rubber with wide applications, and peroxide cured EPDM has good resistance to heat ageing and compression set. In this study, EPDM/HNT nanocomposites were prepared using an internal mixer. Dicumyl peroxide(DCP), as a curing agent, was incoporated into the compound using a two roll mill. Surface of the HNT was modified to have acrylic groups so that the filler surface can be participated in the peroxide curing. Curing behavior, thermal properties, and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were investigated. |
