제목 Optimization of Nickel mediated polymerization of polyphenylene copolymer for anion exchange membrane applications
초록    Ni(COD) has been widely used in the synthesis of polyphenylene due to its high reactivity. However, it is expensive and non-renewable. For this reason, research to develop a low-cost catalyst to replace Ni(COD)₂ has been conducted for a long time, and one of them is a NiX₂ catalyst. NiX₂ catalysts can be regenerated by ligands and co-catalyst, allowing small amounts to be used for the polymerization. Since NiX₂ is less reactive than Ni(COD)₂, the most important factor in polymerization using NiX₂ is the combination of a catalyst and a ligand. 
   In this study, the ratio of NiX₂catalyst, ligand and co-catalyst for polyphenylene synthesis was optimized. Polyphenylene with high molecular weight was successfully synthesized using NiX₂ catalyst, and the molecular weight was similar to that synthesized using Ni(COD)₂. The anion conductivity of quaternary ammonium bearing polyphenylene was characterized for anion exchange membrane applications.
