In this paper, we present polymeric thin film containing chiral polyelectrolyte. Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides consisted of 1,4-glucopyranose units that exhibit a torus-shaped structure with a hydrophobic cavity and a hydrophilic exterior. Due to the special molecular structure they are able to enclose smaller hydrophobic molecules or hydrophobic side groups of polymer as guests into their cavities to form host-guest interaction complexation. We synthesized beta-cyclodextrin polymer that has choline chloride groups as charged units. We used this polyelectrolyte with oppositely charged polyelectrolytes to construct polyelectrolyte multilayers. Utilizing the nature of weak polyelectrolytes, the PEM films assembled in various pH conditions, exhibit different surface properties such as wetting, surface morphology and cellular interactions. |
