Solid rocket propellants are mixture consisting of a polymeric binder, burning rate catalysts, high energy additives, oxidizer, metallic fuel additives, etc. Among Fe or Cu complexes mainly used as burning rate catalysts, many studies on ferrocene derivatives have been reported recently. Previously, we synthesized carboxylated GAP copolyols which can be used as energetic polymer binder. In this research, GAP copolymers based on ferrocenyl butyrate (poly(GA-FcBu)) were developed from a combination of energetic polymer binder and burning rate catalysts. Poly(GA-FcBu) with various ratios of sodium azide:ferrocenyl butyrate (9:1, 8:2 and 7:3) were synthesized by two-step substitution reaction with PECH, sodium azide and potassium ferrocenyl butyrate in DMSO. The synthesized compounds were characterized by various analysis tools such as FT-IR, 13C NMR, GPC, TGA and DSC. |
