In the present investigation vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays were synthesized by aqueous chemical growth (ACG) route onto fluoride doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrate. These nanorods were further sensitized with cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. The synthesized CdS sensitized ZnO nanorod arrays were characterized for their optical, structural, and morphological properties with UV-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), x-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive x-ray analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The cross-section images of the samples clearly depict different lengths of ZnO nanorods. We obtain a highest total light-to-electricity power conversion efficiency of 1.89 % for CdS sensitized solar cells. |
