Facile preparation of multifunctional coated polystyrene beads (PS beads) by adherence of 2-chloro-3′,4′-dihydroxyacetophenone (CCDP) on PS beads surfaces. In this study CCDP is adhered onto PS beads surface under base condition where polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) has been added as stabilizer. The modified PS beads were functionalized with silver nanoparticles (Ag), iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe), TiO2 nanoparticles (Ti) and spiropyran functional groups (SP). This study generated Ag-PS, Fe-PS, Ti-PS, SP-PS beads as antimicrobial, magnetic, photo-catalytic effect, and photo-switchable fluorescence image platforms, respectively. The surfaces of the PS beads were morphologically examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The proposed modified PS beads might be pervasively applied in different fields as functional materials. This was supported by Korea National University of Transportation in 2016. |
