In this study, highly durable cation exchange membranes were prepared by sulfonation with various concentration of sulfonating agent and sulfonation time. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum analysis was performed to confirm the structure of cation exchange membranes, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was performed for the quantitative analysis of the chemical composition. The degree of sulfonation (DOS), water uptake (WU) and ion exchange capacity (IEC) of cation exchange membranes were measured by gravimetric and titration methods. The cation exchange membranes increased in sulfonation degree with increasing sulfonation time and concentration of sulfonating agent. |
