Photo-cationic polymerization of epoxides has many merits, such as insensitivity toward oxygen of photo-curing and living character compared to radical polymerization of acrylates. However, their applications were limited as special fields such as adhesive due to their low curing speed and limitation of raw materials. In our research, cyclo-aliphatic epoxy oligosiloxane resin was synthesized by sol-gel reaction of 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane (ECTS), and diphenylsilanediol (DPSD). Cyclo-aliphatic epoxy hybrid materials were fabricated by cationic polymerization of the synthesized oligosiloxane resin, oxetane monomer, and triarylsulfonium salt. Oxetane monomers were used to promote photo-curing speed. The fabricated cyclo-aliphatic epoxy hybrid materials showed high transparency (>90%), thermal stability (>380℃), good gas barrier, and electrical properties. On the basis of these properties and high curing speed, they can be expected to utilize various display fields. |
