Ion beam-based surface modification for the spatial control of cell adhesion |

In this study, a simple method for the control of cell adhesion on a polymer surface was developed by using a masked ion implantation. Well defined patterns of the Pluronic were formed on a polymer surface by ion implantation. The cells were adhered to the bare polymer regions separated by the cell-repellent Pluronic patterns at a lower fluence. However, at a higher fluence, the cell-repellent Pluronic surface changed into a cell-adhesive one due to the formation of crosslinked networks and hydrophilic functional groups by ion implantation. The cells were randomly adhered and proliferated onto the entire surface of the Pluronic-patterned polymer at a higher fluence. |
