Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystal Reaction Field: A Versatile Tool for Asymmetric Polymerization and Asymmetric Synthesis |

We prepared a chemically stable chiral nematic liquid crystal (N*-LC) as an asymmetric reaction solvent for synthesis of helical polyacetylene (PA). The hierarchical helical structures of PA are precisely controlled by changing the screw degree or direction of the N*-LC reaction field. We extended the usage of N*-LC reaction field to synthesis of hleical aromatic conjugated polymers with circularly polarized fluoresence and to asymmetric synthesis such as Claisen rearrangement, diels-alder, and SN1 reaction. |
