Chiral nematic LCs shows the unique selective reflection colour due to their helical structure on light. The reflected colour is influenced by the temperature, magnetic field, electric field, chemical compositions and external force. Because of these characteristics, chiral nematic phase has been widely utilized for optical storage, optical switching, color filter and display devices in field of liquid crystal. With the helical structure of the molecule, they show unique optical properties such as selective reflection light, thermochromism, and circular dichroism. In this paper, we synthesized the two kinds of series of asymmertric dimesogenic compounds containing cholesterol and azobenzene groups with the photoresponse or the eleectroresponse via the alkylene spacers and their thermal and optic-electro properties on liquid crystal phase were investigated. |
