An amorphous polyviologens with Tf2N- anions and their blend mixtures with polyethers were prepared. The amorphous morphologies were realized by two randomly placed C6 and C10 spacers between two ionic viologen units. The amorphous morphology was confirmed by DSC and the polyviologen is thermally stable up to 320 oC, according to the TGA. For their ionic conductivities, they have a slope change (linear to curvature) at their glass transition temperatures. The blend mixture with DB30C10 of the amorphous polyviologen does not show a conductivity increase; due to its Tg is almost the same as the individual polyviologen. Other blends with DB30C10, 30C10 and 18C6 showed increased ionic conductivities due to the Tg drop. The plot of ionic conductivity vs. Tg/T reveals that the higher ionic conductivities of the mixture blends can be mostly from the change in Tg. |
