A novel series of bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) type solar cells (PC-DT-DFQx, PC-DT-FQx, PC-DT-Qx) were designed and synthesized. These donor-acceptor type polymer solar cells based on carbazole as electron rich unit and quinoxaline as electron poor unit were expressly designed to investigate the effect of fluorine atom. Fluorine atom with electron-withdrawing properties was introduced in quinoxaline to achieve deeper highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels, simultaneously. As a result, the electrochemical properties of the polymers showed HOMO levels of -5.44,-5.48 and -5.58 eV and the LUMO levels of -2.94, -2.97 and -3.30 eV, respectively. The polymer PC-DT-DFQx showed a highest value of 5.06% power conversion efficiency (PCE) and value of 0.85 V open-circuit voltage (Voc). |
