Enhanced Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Performance by an Alternative System Configuration |

An atmospheric pressure plasma jet is promising for surface treatment, and biomedical applications since low operating costs and straightforward of the plasma system. A general coplanar-coaxial dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet consists of two ring electrodes, and they exposed to the atmosphere. However, sparks between electrodes would occur under this condition. In this research, we demonstrated that sparks between electrodes were extinguished by the immersed electrodes in the transformer oil. This alternative configuration provided a high-level performance in generating plasma jet in comparison with the electrodes exposed to the atmosphere, i.e. a stable discharge and long plasma plume, reduced discharge power, and an increase in the range of operating parameters. |
