Continuous fiber alignment at desired position on a substrate in the form of straight lines is difficult by using common electrospinning equipments and processes. We have developed a robotic electrohydrodynamic nozzle printing (REHN) equipment and process to fabricate the patterned arrays on substrates. We have successfully fabricated the aligned patterns of poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) nanofibers by controlling REHN conditions. By doping the PVK nanofiber with organic emitting dopants, we have fabricated well-aligned, multi-colored nanofibers due to the Frster energy transfer between PVK and the emitting dopants. We have characterized the photoluminescence from the various fibers. On the other hand, we have successfully fabricated the PVK / quantum dot composite fiber mat and then used the composite fiber mat as a down-conversion phosphor layer on a blue light-emitting diode (LED) for white emission with a CIE coordinate of(0.367, 0.367). |
