Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a rigid and tough, closed-cell foam. It is usually white and made of pre-expanded polystyrene beads. EPS is used for many applications e.g. trays, plates, bowls and fish boxes. Other uses include molded sheets for building insulation. But EPS is flammable material. So, It is need to load flame retardant materials for increase thermal properties. It was used as a flame retardant in various polymer binder for Flame retardant coated EPS. We used Poly-vinyl acetate(PVAc) based mixture binder and expanded graphite(EG), phosphate flame retardant materials. TGA were used to measure the changes of thermal decomposition behavior and properties as a function of temperature and the relationship was examined. And XRD was used to analyze the structure of EG. FE-SEM was used to determine the dispersion phase and compatibility of EPS matrix. |
