Sorbent trap is designed for the control of elemental mercury emissions from combustion processes. Sorbent trap is a pyrex glass tube filled up with two section of activated carbon impregnated with 5% aqua regia to achieve high mercury adsorption efficiency. In one part, sorbent trap is used to study the efficiency of elemental mercury adsorption under different inlet mercury vapor concentration, flow rate and experiment temperature. EPA method 30B is used for the adsorption of elemental mercury, EPA method 3052 is used for the extracting of elemental mercury adsorbed in activated carbon, and CVAAS is applied for the analysis of mercury. In the other part, standard mercury solution is poured to activated carbon to study the stability of adsorption by testing the mercury adsorbed in the activated carbon after evaporation once a month. |
