Among the various existing energy storage technologies, electrochemical capacitors are promising power sources for portable electronic systems and automotive applications, due to their high power density and long life-time. Novel electrospun nanofibers with functional properties can dramatically alter surface reaction rates and charge transport throughout the batteries, causing significant improvement in energy storage efficiency. The design of electrospun nanofiber materials for alternative energy systems is, therefore, a way to develop next-generation energy storage system for a healthy future. Here, we present our work on the development of advanced carbon-based nanofiber electrodes and the integration of these materials into electrochemical capacitors and lithium ion battery with high energy and high power density to achieve high system performance. |
