Polymer composite membrane was prepared using imidazole functionalized graphene oxide (ImGO) and poly[2,2'-(m-phenylene)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole] (m-PBI). ImGO was made by reaction of o-phenylenediamine with graphene oxide (GO). Composite membrane was fabricated by solvent casting method using N,N-dimethylacetamide with subsequent heating to 120 oC. To comfime the successful preparation of ImGO, FT-IR, TGA, and XPS data were collected. All the composite membranes exhibit improved comprehensive properties such as oxidative and thermal stability, mechanical properties and electrochemical properties compared to pure m-PBI membrane. Especially, at 150 oC anhydrous condition, PBI/ImGO_0.5 membrane shows enhanced proton conductivity of 77.52 mS cm-1 which is 46.8% higher than that of pure m-PBI. Therefore, PBI/ImGO composite membrane can be thought as a promising proton exchange membrane candidate for HT-PEMFC. |
