Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are noted for their outstanding electrical, mechanical and thermal properties. However, the practical uses of pristine CNTs are impeded by their tendency to agglomerate and their insolubilities in organic solvents or water. In order to impart solubility and to reduce the tendency of agglomeration, CNTs are often functionalized with organic moieties and polymer. Polymer-grafted CNTs are highly effective reinforcing fillers for polymers. In this study, MWNT-COOH was reacted with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce MWNT containing 2-bromoisobutyryl group(MWNT-Br). New hybrid materials with polyoxazoline and MWNT-Br were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of 2-methyl-2-oxazoline initiated by MWNT-Br. The composition, structure, and surface morphology of the new hybrid materials with polyoxazoline and MWNT-Br were studied by SEM, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, NMR, and Raman. |
