In this work, the effect of silicon carbide contents was investigated in thermal stabilities, oxidation resistances and fracture toughnesses of carbonized pitch coated glass fibers-reinforced composites. Fracture toughnesses of the composites were studied using critical stress intensity factor (K1c) measurements. The cross-section morphologies of carbonized pitch coated glass fibers-reinforced composites were observed by scanning electron microscope. And structure of carbonized glass fibers-reinforced composites was examined using XRD method. Also, the surface properties of glass fibers were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The thermal stabilities and the oxidation resistance properties of pitch-carbonized glass fibers-reinforced composites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. From the results, these composites were explained that suitable amount of silicon carbide played an important role in improving oxidation resistance properties, thermal properties, and fracture toughnesses. |
