Synthesis of Potassium alkoxide-initiated α,ω-heterobifunctional poly(ethylene oxide) and its application for preparation of gold nanoparticles |

Functionalized polymers have been used for preparation of nano-sized transition metals or metal oxides. In this respect, we synthesized α,ω-heterotelechelic poly(ethylene oxide) via anionic mechanism. After complete polymerization of ethylene oxide using potassium azidopropanate in THF, purified propylene sulfide was delivered into the reactor under high vacuum. The thiolated compounds have been found to stabilize the surface of gold particles. The resulting α-azido-ω-thiolated PEO was used to prepare the gold nano particles. Practically, to get azide-funtionalized gold nanoparticles, the PEO-based bifunctionalized polymer bearing the chain-end thiolated group was employed with HAuCl4 in water at 60°C, followed by reduction using NaBH4. In this presentation, the preliminary results for this experiment will be discussed. |
