Utilization of ammonia as hydrogen carrier |

Hydrogen has attracted much attention as a promising energy carrier because of the utilization of renewable energy and commercialization of fuel cell systems. However, the low volumetric energy density, and difficulty in storage and transportation are major obstacles for the practical utilization. Thus, the on-site generation of hydrogen from its carrier is an effective method for the fuel supply. Ammonia is one of the attractive candidates among various hydrogen carriers because of its high hydrogen density, low production cost, and ease in liquefaction and transport. Then, we have focused on the utilization of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier, and investigated the ammonia decomposition to produce hydrogen and the fuel cells supplied with ammonia. In this study, we introduce our researches on the utilization technology of ammonia. |
