제목 Application of IrO2 Inverse-Opal Electrode in a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolysis
초록 An iridium oxide inverse-opal electrode was proposed as anode in polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) to reduce the catalyst loading by increasing the utilization of catalyst. Inverse-opal structure has many structural advantages such as high surface area and three-dimensionally ordered and interconnected pores. Electrodeposition parameters, i.e. current density and total number of cycles, were investigated to prepare the inverse-opal electrode. The PEMWE with ultra-low loading (0.02 mg cm-2) showed outstanding performance, which is superior or comparable to that reported to date. Furthermore, the performance is the highest mass activity reported to date since the inverse-opal electrode had ultra-low catalyst loading. These results were due to the increased the surface area due to high porosity, thereby leading to the enhanced utilization of the catalyst.
