3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (MOP) was introduced onto the surface of silica particles by the sequential addition of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and MOP to W/O emulsion. The effect of MOP on the formation of the silica particles was investigated by the variation of the reaction time of TEOS before the addition of MOP. PNIPAm-grafted silica particles were synthesized by radical copolymerization of NIPAm monomers and MOP-modified silica particles. The introduction of MOP onto the surface of silica particles and the synthesis of PNIPAm-silica composites were confirmed by FT-IR, FE-SEM, BET, and TGA. |
